Job Title: Associate Director, Cost Planning

Job Summary:

Altus Group is seeking an experienced Associate Director to join our Development Advisory Team in Calgary. The successful candidate will work closely with the management team to deliver cost consulting services to clients across various asset types and accounts. Key responsibilities include providing guidance to a team of consultants, reviewing and interpreting design documents, and consolidating project estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform Quantity Surveying / Cost Planning activities on Construction Projects across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Northern Territories.
  • Review and interpretation of design documents to measure and quantify specific building elements.
  • Consolidate and perform analysis of project estimates utilizing benchmarking data.
  • Direct the distribution of inputs required for the preparation of the estimates.
  • Conduct technical reviews and quality assurance of reports produced by others.
  • Provides direction, leadership, coaching, and mentoring to the team.
  • Act as primary contact for all client communications on projects.
  • Accountable for sourcing new clients/business and developing and building long term client relationships.
  • Preparation of Fee Proposals in response to client requests / Request for Proposals (RFP's).

Key Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Technical Diploma; in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Sciences, Construction, Quantity Surveying or related fields.
  • Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) per CIQS, Construction Estimator Certified (CEC) per CIQS, or Member RICS (MRICS).
  • 10+ years of experience in Quantity Surveying, Estimating, construction, or project management or related field, and minimum 5 years of leadership experience in Construction Consulting or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of the local construction industry (commercial, institutional, multi-family residential, sector projects), public and private owners, general contractors, sub-trades, contracts, Lien Acts, pricing, estimating methods of measurement, etc.
  • Full and deep understanding of Quantity Surveying / Cost Planning services.
  • Proficient in using MS Office, CostX, Estate Master.
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity, honesty and work ethics.
  • Proven strategic thinking, analytical skills, and strong business acumen, with a focus on business development.
