Job Summary:
The University of Manitoba is seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the position of Director, Indigenous Research and Engagement. This is a full-time position that will be based on the Fort Garry Campus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to the development and implementation of Indigenous research initiatives and programs.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including academic faculties, schools, and non-academic units, to develop and implement Indigenous research programs and strategies.
- Build and maintain strong, respectful, and meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, governments, and potential Indigenous graduate students.
- Support the development and implementation of a community relations and engagement strategy for innovative research by, with, and for Indigenous communities.
- Provide training to the UM campus community on Indigenous research methods and ethical practices for community-engaged research.
- Support the VPRI ethics office regarding research protocols for projects with Indigenous communities, and/or using Indigenous research methodologies.
- Manage all funds administered through the Office of Indigenous Research.
Requirements:
- Indigenous (First Nation, Métis or Inuit) with demonstrated research and publication experience and knowledge working with diverse Indigenous cultures, communities, protocols, and practices with a graduate degree.
- Experience, knowledge, and competency with respect to Indigenous cultures, history, and community protocols required.
- Experience, knowledge, and competency with respect to Indigenous research methodologies, TCPS2, and OCAP is required.
- Diverse experience in Indigenous research in a post-secondary setting is required.
- Experience fostering reconciliation initiatives with diverse peoples is preferred.
- Experience working with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities, organizations, and governments is required.
- Extensive knowledge of Indigenous political platforms as they relate to education, research, and community visits required.
- Demonstrates a commitment to graduate student research success.
- Demonstrates a commitment to Indigenous faculty and graduate student success particularly regarding programs of research and funding.
- Demonstrates a commitment to safe and respectful research by, with, and for Indigenous communities and governments.
- Knowledge and understanding of university governance, administration, and policies.
- Experience supervising personnel and as a research project Principal Investigator is required.
- Experience in public speaking, advocacy, report writing, and grant writing are required.
- Knowledge of University of Manitoba graduate degree programs, research centers, and research protocols is preferred.
- Previous experience in research administration and research with Indigenous communities/governments preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral or terminal degree in your field
- Three years in an administrative position
