Apprentice Engineer

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Apprentice Engineer to join our team at Federal Fleet Services. As an Apprentice Engineer, you will play a critical role in the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment onboard our vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor the work of engineering officers and engine room ratings to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel's machinery and technical plant.
- Implement company policies and procedures concerning the Engine Room department as enunciated in the Safety Management System (SMS).
- Ensure that Engine Room department personnel receive formal familiarization training on embarking the vessel via the designated officer onboard.
- Monitor the performance of the main propulsion plant and auxiliary machinery, and take corrective action as necessary.
- Accurately monitor and control the vessel's fuel and lubricating oil consumption, and report any discrepancies to the relevant authorities.
- Comply with statutory and classification surveys requirements with regards to machinery and relevant spaces.
- Report any accidents or damage to the vessel's machinery or technical plant to the relevant authorities.
- Assess and mitigate all identified risks onboard in cooperation with other members of the shipboard management team.
Requirements:
- Possess a valid Canadian passport with an expiry date over six (6) months from the time of joining.
- Possess a valid Transport Canada medical with a validity of six (6) months from the time of joining.
- Possess the required certification for the position held as per the Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) and the Manila 2010 amendments for a vessel operating in unlimited waters.
