Job Title: Transportation Field Inspector II

Morrison Hershfield, now Stantec, is a leading infrastructure consulting firm that delivers innovative solutions for transportation projects. We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Field Inspector II to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Transportation Field Inspector II will be responsible for inspecting contractor's work to ensure it meets contract plans and specifications. This includes coordinating with the project delivery team and contractor to obtain required permits and ensuring compliance with regulations. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of civil engineering principles and experience in heavy civil construction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect contractor's work to ensure compliance with contract plans and specifications
  • Coordinate with project delivery team and contractor to obtain required permits
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards
  • Prepare daily inspection reports and photos
  • Monitor progress and document delays
  • Field verify and document installed quantities
  • Inspect temporary silt fencing and erosion control measures
  • Attend progress and coordination meetings
  • Coordinate testing and inspections
  • Witness field and factory tests
  • Assist with reviewing pay applications
  • Coordinate contractor's work to minimize impacts
  • Assist with testing, startup, and commissioning
  • Assist with project close-out process
  • Evaluate contractor claims
  • Proactively review contract drawings and specifications
  • Evaluate constructability issues
Requirements:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in general heavy civil construction
  • Previous engineering/construction experience is an asset
  • Prior experience working on provincial transportation projects
  • Proficiency with reading and understanding plans and specifications
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training or as a Technician or Technologist
  • Able to work on weekends and nights as required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word, Excel, and database entry
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
