As a Speed Enforcement Officer - Regulatory Compliance Specialist with The Regional Municipality of York, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity of automated speed enforcement operations. This position is responsible for reviewing evidence of alleged offences under the Highway Traffic Act and issuing penalty orders to vehicle owners. You will ensure that all processes adhere to strict regulated timelines and provincial legislation.
About the Role
This challenging and rewarding role involves conducting investigations of automated enforcement equipment records and photographic evidence. You will verify that evidence meets the appropriate threshold of the alleged offence and that equipment has a proper and current Certification of Accuracy within the regulated timeframe. Additionally, you will investigate potential infractions of statues, regulations, and bylaws regulating the use of Automated Enforcement Equipment. Your work will involve requesting vehicle plate ownership information from the Ministry of Transportation and processing and issuing penalty notices to owners of plated vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough investigations of automated enforcement equipment records and photographic evidence to ensure compliance with the Highway Traffic Act and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Verify that evidence meets the required threshold of the alleged offence and that equipment has a valid Certification of Accuracy within the specified timeframe.
- Investigate potential infractions of statues, regulations, and bylaws governing the use of Automated Enforcement Equipment to determine if violations have occurred.
- Request vehicle plate ownership information from the Ministry of Transportation for each investigation.
- Prepare and certify accurate penalty orders for confirmed infractions once ownership information is available.
- Process and issue penalty notices to vehicle owners in accordance with authorities set out in the Highway Traffic Act and related regulations.
- Maintain accurate records and complete associated administrative tasks.
- Operate computerized software as part of the automated speed enforcement program.
- Handle private and confidential information appropriately, adhering to legislation and corporate standards.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Completion of a College Diploma in Law and Security, Police Foundations, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience combination.
- Proficiency in the Highway Traffic Act and relevant legislative requirements.
- Designation as a Provincial Offence Officer, obtainable within six months of hiring, along with a satisfactory Police Reference Check.
- Demonstrated ability in the Region's core competencies.
- Familiarity with MS Office Suite and knowledge of related software programs.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation and file maintenance.
- Experience handling private and confidential information, with impartial decision-making skills when interpreting laws and regulations.
