About the Role

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Recreation Assistant to join our team at Hilltop House Long Term Care Facility. As a Recreation Assistant, you will work in a team-based environment to carry out recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and oversee patients/clients/residents on outings
  • Coordinate the portering of patients/clients/residents to and from the activity
  • Demonstrate techniques of recreation activities
  • Carry out prescribed adaptations to recreation activities to enable patients/clients/residents to maintain maximum potential for independence as per the instruction of the Recreation Therapist
  • Provide functional direction to volunteers
  • Evaluate and report relevant observations of patient's/client's/resident's progress/participation to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team
  • Organize furnishings and equipment for designated activities
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Operate a bus with a passenger seating capacity of up to 25 passengers (including the driver) to transport patients/clients/residents to and from community participation activities as required by site/program

About Hilltop House

Hilltop House is a long term care facility for seniors with complex needs. It provides home-like care for its permanent residents, as well as respite care, a community bathing program, and adult day care for seniors.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted) may be required
