Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Dining Room Culinary Professional to join our team at The Salvation Army. As a key member of our food services team, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals to our residents and clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare meals that meet the dietary needs of our residents and clients, adhering to health and safety regulations.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment, including griddles, deep fryers, steamers, and electric skillets.
  • Maintain high standards of sanitation, health, and safety in the kitchen.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of services by effectively managing resources, minimizing waste, and maximizing utilization of donations.
  • Provide internal catering services for special events and provide input into meal preparation.
  • Mentor and guide Kitchen Helpers in assisting with production and service of meals.
  • Assume supervisory duties during the absence of the Food Services Supervisor or Team Leader.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus specialized courses of up to six months.
  • Cook's papers (1 year course) or equivalent certification.
  • Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Canadian Institute of Food Safety Food Handler Certification Course or equivalent.
  • One to three years prior related experience with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.
  • Knowledge of health and sanitary regulations.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Creativity to develop new recipes utilizing donations.
  • Physical endurance to stand and perform physical duties throughout the shift.
  • Dexterity, good motor skills, and hand-eye coordination.
  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and adapt to various personalities.

The estimated annual salary for this position is around $45,000-$55,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
