Key Responsibilities:- Prepare meals that meet the dietary needs of our residents and clients, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Operate commercial kitchen equipment, including griddles, deep fryers, steamers, and electric skillets.
- Maintain high standards of sanitation, health, and safety in the kitchen.
- Ensure efficient delivery of services by effectively managing resources, minimizing waste, and maximizing utilization of donations.
- Provide internal catering services for special events and provide input into meal preparation.
- Mentor and guide Kitchen Helpers in assisting with production and service of meals.
- Assume supervisory duties during the absence of the Food Services Supervisor or Team Leader.
- High School diploma or equivalent, plus specialized courses of up to six months.
- Cook's papers (1 year course) or equivalent certification.
- Police Information Check (PIC) with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Canadian Institute of Food Safety Food Handler Certification Course or equivalent.
- One to three years prior related experience with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.
- Knowledge of health and sanitary regulations.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Creativity to develop new recipes utilizing donations.
- Physical endurance to stand and perform physical duties throughout the shift.
- Dexterity, good motor skills, and hand-eye coordination.
- Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with other kitchen staff and adapt to various personalities.
The estimated annual salary for this position is around $45,000-$55,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
