Research Development Officer

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a highly skilled Research Development Officer to join the Office of the VP Research. The Office provides comprehensive support for research creation and translation, oversees external funding applications, and serves as the central hub for institutional grant proposals, contracts, and awards.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert advice and guidance to researchers on proposal development, grant writing, and research funding opportunities.
- Liaise with TRU researchers, funding agencies, and external partners to develop and cultivate research partnerships.
- Identify, solicit, and cultivate major funding agencies, including provincial, federal, and national agencies, not-for-profits, for-profits, and foundations.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of funding opportunities and requirements, and match opportunities to faculty members' strengths and areas of expertise.
- Assist and advise researchers and research teams in developing and submitting research proposals, including reviewing grant applications and providing expert guidance on proposal editing and submission.
- Develop and prepare complex technical documents for grant applications, including data management plans, research security assessments, EDI statements, and KM plans.
- Review and interpret feedback on unsuccessful grants with researchers to assist in strengthening future funding applications.
- Maintain knowledge of funding programs, policies, regulations, and procedures, and disseminate changes to researchers and advise on implementation.
- Assist the Director of Research Services in developing and administering large institutional applications, and support researchers' engagement and development programs through event coordination, facilitation, and training materials development.
- Monitor and report on faculty research, leveraging key areas of activity for proposals and revenue growth.
- Identify and contact potential partners, initiate and set up meetings among faculty and with potential partners to develop joint grant applications and research partnerships.
- Use specialized databases and systems to record and track grant proposals, awards, and related statistical information, and create reports as required.
- Ph.D. or Master's degree with relevant research experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three years of recent work experience in research development, grants management, and proposal development, preferably in an academic setting.
- Advanced knowledge of research methodologies, academic research organizations, and research funding agencies.
- Exceptional knowledge of grant life cycle, successful grant application procedures, and institutional compliance requirements.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
