Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Heavy-duty Equipment Technician to join our team at Fort Garry Ind. Ltd. The ideal candidate will have experience in maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, with a focus on ensuring optimal performance and safety.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Instruct apprentices and train new staff members in equipment maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions, using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of required repairs.
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, ensuring all work meets manufacturers' specifications.
  • Keep accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Develop expertise in diesel engine repair, including fuel injection systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, and lubrication systems.
  • Perform complex tasks such as welding, cleaning, and lubricating equipment, as well as performing repair work on heavy trucks and verifying emission control systems.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Certificate or diploma in a related field (e.g., heavy equipment mechanics) or equivalent experience.
  • Level three, four, or five apprenticeship training in heavy equipment mechanics.
  • Diesel engine repair specialization, including knowledge of fuel injection systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, and lubrication systems.
  • Powered equipment repair specialization, including cable-operated working attachments, hydraulic-operated working attachments, compressors, pumps, industrial lift trucks, and fork-lifts.
  • Mechanical maintenance and repair specialization, including mechanical transmissions, drive trains, hydraulic transmissions, power take-offs, tracked vehicle suspensions, and steering.
  • Valid driver's license.
