Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team at the York Region District School Board. As an Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, providing individualized support and accommodations to ensure their academic success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs, including those with autism, physical disabilities, and learning disabilities
  • Assist students with daily living skills, such as toileting, dressing, and feeding
  • Support students with behavioral challenges, using positive reinforcement techniques and de-escalation strategies
  • Assist with classroom management, including supervising students during transitions and breaks
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure a collaborative approach to student support
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in a related field, such as special education or child and youth care
  • Experience working with students with special needs, preferably in a school setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • First Aid and CPR certification
