Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Chief Investment Strategist to lead our debt investments team. This is a remote role based in Toronto, Canada.

As Chief Investment Strategist, you will be responsible for evaluating strategic credit investment opportunities, making recommendations on size, length, and structure of capital advances to our Credit Committee. You will also provide leadership to a team of highly motivated investment analysts and guide them through their professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate strategic credit investment opportunities and make recommendations to the Credit Committee
  • Lead a team of investment analysts and guide them through their professional development
  • Meet founders and their management teams during the underwriting process to understand their business model and assess their needs and risk profile
  • Own underwriting models and be accountable for their performance

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in making large debt investment decisions (£/$2m+), preferably within the venture capital/venture debt/start-up financing ecosystem
  • Experience in investing in asset-light business models (e.g., e-commerce, saas)
  • Strong educational background in finance, preferably holding an accounting/finance degree or an MBA
  • Highly analytical, possessing expert-level experience and expertise in interpreting complex financial accounts/business data for underwriting purposes
  • A confident communicator who can effectively interview founders and their CFOs to understand their business and financial performance
