Job Title: School Counsellor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Counsellor to join our team at the Lax Kw'alaams Band. As a key member of our school-based team, you will provide direct social-emotional, academic, and career-vocational counselling and consultation to students, their families, and supporting staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions to students, addressing social-emotional, academic, and career-vocational needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to develop and implement individualized plans to support student success.
  • Develop and maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes student well-being and academic achievement.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in counselling and education, and incorporate this knowledge into your work.
  • Work closely with the school administration and community to ensure that the school's mission and values are upheld.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Education Psychology or Counselling Psychology.
  • BC Teacher Certification and membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch preferred.
  • Teaching experience at the elementary or high school level is an asset.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in counselling children and working as part of a school-based team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Trauma-Informed Practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven record of professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, dependability, and reliability.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  • Able to deal with people sensitivity, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Proven ability to establish open, trusting, and respectful relationships with youth.
  • Personal attributes include caring, compassion, empathy, and sensitivity.
  • Experience working with First Nation children, adults, and families.
  • Innovative, creative, team player, and resourceful.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check working with vulnerable populations.
