Healthcare Content Specialist

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is seeking a qualified content expert/curriculum developer to revise a major course, HLTH 4011: Issues in Health Care.
Course Overview:
This course explores current issues in healthcare and the Canadian healthcare system. Students analyze issues from various perspectives, including individual, family member, healthcare professional, lobby group, healthcare administrator, or politician. The course develops critical thinking skills and knowledge of health determinants in global and Canadian contexts.
Course Development Process:
- Participate in brainstorming and planning sessions.
- Develop a detailed course planning document, including learning outcomes, activities, and assessments.
- Revise and/or develop content, including learning activities and assessments, to ensure relevance and appropriateness for an online-paced course.
- Create multimedia or other active learning activities to ensure student engagement through experiential learning.
- Choose effective and appropriate resources, prioritizing low-cost and accessible options, such as Open Educational Resources (OERs), TRU's e-Library collection, and article databases.
- Accurately cite sources and identify third-party material requiring copyright clearance, respecting intellectual property laws.
- Follow the guidance of the Instructional Designer on AI-generated content inclusion.
TRU-OL uses a collaborative approach to course development, involving interactive planning meetings and review sessions as needed.
Expectations:
- Meet deliverables according to the agreed-upon timeline.
- Respond to project-related communication and meeting requests within 48 hours.
- Provide constructive and relevant feedback centered on course content and learning activities.
- Participate in post-development contract evaluation.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully, adhering to TRU Policy Number BRD 17-0: RESPECTFUL WORKPLACE AND HARASSMENT PREVENTION.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Health Sciences or a related discipline from a recognized academic institution.
- Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and/or scholarship of teaching.
- Appropriate and current knowledge, experience, and content expertise, preferably including distance and post-secondary education experience.
- Significant relevant work experience.
- Preference given to faculty members with a successful ongoing record of teaching and scholarship.
- Proven course development skills in a face-to-face or distance environment, including writing in a clear and consistent style, meeting deadlines, and working collaboratively.
- Experience or education in online course development or online facilitation is an asset but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner, including inter-professional teams.
- Practicing membership in a relevant professional association where applicable.
