Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Fiberglass Laminator to join our team at Hughes Safety Showers, a world leader in emergency safety showers, eye/face wash, and decontamination equipment. As a Fiberglass Laminator, you will be responsible for manufacturing high-quality Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) parts, ensuring safety, accuracy, and timeliness in the GRP area.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately read blueprints, drawings, and take precise measurements to ensure product quality.
• Operate hand tools, including grinders, belt sanders, hammers, rollers, brushes, drills, saws, screw guns, metal shears, utility knives, framing squares, and edging tools.
• Prepare molds for gel coat application and apply gel coat to specification.
• Perform various laminating processes, including wet-lay, infusion, vac-bagging, pre-preg, and RTM.
• Precut fiberglass mats, cloth, and wood-bracing materials as required.
• Apply layers of saturated mat or cloth to molds, smoothing out wrinkles and air bubbles.
• Mix catalysts into resins using brushes.
• Apply layers of plastic resin to mold surfaces, repeating layers until products have the desired thickness and plastics have jelled.
• Complete part repairs and trimming.
• Perform regular preventive maintenance on GRP molds.
• Train other laminators and support workers.
• Daily cleaning of work area.
• Maintain safety standards.

Requirements

• 2 years of experience in the Marine, Aerospace, Automotive, or other quality-driven industry.
• Experience with Fiberglass Laminating is preferred.
• Thorough understanding of GRP laminating and associated processes.
• Ability to work in a flexible team environment with job rotation as needed.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of measurements using a tape measure.

Working Conditions

• Able to lift and carry 50 lbs. to waist and overhead with proper lifting techniques.
• Ability to use ladders at least 10 feet off the ground.
• Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, pull, push, and lift 50 lbs. up to 8 hours per day and when overtime is scheduled.
• Wear all required PPE, including steel-toed shoes and safety glasses.
• Good physical condition and endurance.
