Job Summary:

The Produce Department Assistant Manager will be responsible for assisting in the efficient functioning of the department, providing customers with the best quality of produce and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring exceptional customer service is provided in a courteous manner to maintain our reputation for friendly, effective, and personalized experience.
  • Assisting in the directing and supervising of all produce staff to secure efficient and courteous customer service;
  • Assisting in the set-up of the department by assisting in the effective merchandising of produce through attractive and appealing displays, occasionally assisting in the creation of effective planograms;
  • Writing and receiving produce orders, checking invoices, unloading and distributing merchandise accordingly;
  • Filling, rotating and maintaining displays ensuring the quality of produce meets company standards;
  • Assisting in the training of new staff;
  • Solving any customer/employee complaints or problems while left in charge of the department;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • A minimum of 3 years' produce experience in a retail produce environment, with good knowledge of greens, fresh fruits, the salad bar, and bulk foods
  • Previous management experience a definite asset;
  • Flexibility to work a variety of hours including days, evenings and weekends;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure;
  • Excellent organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
