Job Title: Staff Lawyer - Special Projects

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Staff Lawyer to join our team at First United. As a Staff Lawyer, you will play a key role in providing legal services, building capacity in our Advocacy program, and supporting law reform and community-based legal education initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct legal services to clients in various practice areas, including housing law, income security, human rights, and administrative law.
  • Develop and implement legal information tools and resources in expanded legal areas.
  • Conduct legal research, including interjurisdictional research, to inform law reform and community-based legal education initiatives.
  • Provide training and support for advocates working in these areas.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant case law and legislative developments and communicate with team as applicable.
Requirements:
  • Holds a law degree and licensed to practice as a lawyer in British Columbia.
  • Experience and interest in research and data-based approaches to law is an asset.
  • Proven analytical, research, and written advocacy skills.
  • Knowledge of the systemic barriers encountered by people living in the Downtown Eastside, including personal and intergenerational trauma, and the criminalization and racialization of poverty.
