Clinical Care Specialist

Overview
Clinical Care Specialists at Michael Garron Hospital are expected to possess a defined body of knowledge, clinical skills, and professional attitudes, which are directed to effective patient and family-centered care. They apply these competencies to collect and interpret information, make appropriate nursing clinical decisions, and carry out therapeutic nursing interventions. In collaboration with the Registered Nurse, Clinical Care Specialists apply these competencies within the boundaries of their knowledge, skill, and judgment, personal expertise, the healthcare setting, and the patient's preferences. The role is guided by codes of ethics and a commitment to clinical competence, their care is characterized by up-to-date, resource-efficient clinical practice as well as with effective communication in partnership with patients and families and other healthcare providers.
Education
A Registered Practical Nursing Diploma with current certificate of registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario is required. Current BLS certification is also required. Completion of a physical assessment course or a willingness to complete within 6 months of obtaining the position is also necessary.
Experience
2 years of surgical experience within the last 3 years is required. Demonstrated ability in IV initiation and venopuncture is preferred. Knowledge of PCA and pain management is an asset. Knowledge of current techniques in wound-care is also an asset. Maintaining competence relative to current practices is essential. Demonstrated excellence in the provision of patient-focused care is required. Excellent organizational, communication, observational, and interpersonal skills are necessary. Demonstrated ability to work within a team setting is also required. Motivated to pursue educational goals is a must. Good work and attendance record is required. Willingness to work in all areas of the Surgery Service is necessary.
