Job Title: Specialist Train Dynamics

Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) have merged to form CPKC, the only truly North American railway. As a Specialist of Train Dynamics, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient operation of our train systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in-depth analyses of train dynamics using computational models and simulations to understand performance characteristics under various operating conditions.
  • Implement and oversee monitoring systems to continuously assess the dynamic behavior of trains, identify potential issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform derailment analysis and interpretation of various sources of information for root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations.
  • Ensure all train dynamic studies and implementations comply with relevant safety standards and regulations; recommend and develop improved operating practices based on analytical results.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure integrated solutions for train performance.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations detailing findings, recommendations, and implemented solutions.
  • Support and develop strategies to enhance energy efficiency through dynamic performance improvements.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in train dynamics and contribute to R&D projects aimed at innovating and improving rail systems.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and other team members on concepts and best practices related to train dynamics.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • Locomotive engineering and conductor qualification will be required, including active quarterly deployment rotations in operations.
  • Strong mechanics understanding and demonstrated experience in numerical modeling and analysis of mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, scheduling, planning, and execution.
  • Ability to execute projects autonomously and independently.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and respectful high-performance team environment.
  • Experience with train design and handling is an asset.
