We are seeking a highly skilled Bioinformatics Scientist to join our interdisciplinary research team at the Michael Smith Laboratories, University of British Columbia. The successful candidate will play a key role in the bioinformatics analysis of computational cancer genomic research data.

Job Summary

The Bioinformatics Scientist will work closely with researchers to develop, test, and automate bioinformatics solutions for computational genomics problems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics, computational genomics, and experience in working with high-throughput data. The successful candidate will be responsible for finding and developing bioinformatics solutions for computational genomics problems, deploying workflows, pipelines, and analyses, and collaborating with researchers to ensure the successful deployment of solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform simple to complex bioinformatics analysis and requests independently
  • Research and implement bioinformatics solutions as requested
  • Collaborate with researchers to develop, test, and automate bioinformatics solutions
  • Collaborate with researchers to distribute and maintain software packages
  • Handle bioinformatics data retrieval, processing, and dissemination requests
  • Assist researchers in computational, statistical, and visualization tasks for publication
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a post-graduate degree in Statistics or Computer Science, with a minimum of two years of related experience in research analysis or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in bioinformatics, computational genomics, and experience in working with high-throughput data.
