Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Care Worker to join our team at WJS Canada. As a Youth Care Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily lives of youth in our care, promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and support youth in developing and achieving personal goals, promoting independence and self-sufficiency.
  • Teach and encourage life skills, such as communication, emotional well-being, problem-solving, and daily living skills.
  • Supervise and participate in programming and activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development, fostering a sense of competence and self-worth.
  • Ensure the basic needs of youth are met, including personal care, life skills, and social/occupational skills.
  • Contribute to daily household tasks, including cleaning, laundry, and assisting youth with daily responsibilities.
  • Transport youth to and from school, medical appointments, recreational activities, and community resources.
  • Plan, support, and deliver culturally appropriate programs, services, workshops, and outings, promoting cultural awareness and participation.
  • Collaborate with the team to design, implement, and evaluate individual service plans, program-specific policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Child and Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field.
  • 2 years of related experience in youth programming, group homes, supported independent living, daycare, or out-of-school care.
  • Preference for First Nations, Métis, or Indigenous applicants, as per the CHRC Aboriginal Employment Policy.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License and clean driver's abstract with personal car insurance (2 million in third-party liability).
  • First Aid/CPR Certificate and training in Suicide Intervention, Self-Harm, Crisis Intervention, and Medication Administration.
  • Aboriginal awareness and cultural diversity training.
  • Able to work and follow WJS Canada policies and procedures, adhering to the Alberta Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Accreditation Council of Human Services.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
