About the Role
PCL Construction Management Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting detailed analyses of contract documents and specifications, identifying project requirements, and managing associated risk factors.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of contract documents and specifications to determine overall project requirements and identify potential risks.
- Collaborate with the Chief Estimator to establish team assignments and estimating review dates.
- Prepare final cost estimates using PCL's in-house software system, incorporating labor, equipment, and material data, pricing documentation, overhead, and profit margins.
- Develop conceptual estimates and conventional bid submissions, either with or without complete drawings and specifications.
- Serve as a liaison with external consultants and project management organizations to estimate project budget requirements and coordinate tender development processes on behalf of clients.
- Review special proposal requirements and make recommendations in conjunction with the Chief Estimator.
- Obtain pricing from subcontractors and suppliers for labor, equipment, and materials to ensure compliance with PCL's safety and quality standards.
- Oversee the completion of a final bid submission review and manage the final tender document submission to the client on behalf of PCL.
- Analyze and determine productivities.
- Organize bid closing assignments to meet submission deadlines on closing day.
- Participate in PCL's mentoring program and act as a mentor for junior employees.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in engineering or post-secondary diploma in a construction-related discipline or quantity surveying.
- Minimum 12+ years of estimating experience in the construction industry; preference given to those with previous estimating experience with a large general contractor.
- General civil and commercial construction knowledge, including understanding of plans, specifications, methods, and procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of key principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity takeoff procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing, and bid closing procedures.
- Experience with the Design Build process.
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to identify competitors and understand current market conditions.
- Ability to recognize risks and opportunities to a project and analyze them, determine associated costs, impact to schedule, and create mitigation plans.
- Past experience in supervising junior and intermediate-level employees.
- Ability to use industry relationships with trade partners to create a competitive advantage.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Gold seal certification considered an asset.

PCL combines flexible benefits with case compensation to provide comprehensive and competitive compensation packages that reward personal performance, merit, and effort.
Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $145,000 based on experience and qualifications.
