Job Title: Director of Tax

Brookfield Asset Management, Inc is seeking a highly skilled Director of Tax to join our team in Toronto, Canada.

About the Role:

The Director of Tax will be responsible for leading our tax compliance, planning, and risk management efforts in Canada and internationally. This role will involve analyzing complex tax implications, coordinating with internal and external teams, and ensuring compliance with tax policies and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze Canadian tax implications of foreign affiliate transactions, including financial statement review and legal agreement analysis.
  • Coordinate internal and external teams to ensure timely and accurate execution, documentation, and reporting of transactions and activity.
  • Design and implement processes to ensure compliance with tax risk management protocols.
  • Manage international tax compliance and reporting, including surplus and ACB computations, excluded property analysis, and T1134 forms review.
  • Communicate with government and financial statement auditors and respond to audit requests.
  • Stay current with changing tax laws that may impact relevant transactions and structures.
Requirements:
  • ~7-10 years of progressive Canadian tax experience.
  • ~Specialization in outbound international tax in a Big 4 public accounting firm, law firm, and/or a large multinational Canadian company is preferred.
  • ~Experience managing advisors/delivery teams and interacting with government and financial statement auditors.
  • ~Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment.
  • ~Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to describe complex tax concepts to various non-tax audiences in a clear and concise manner.
  • ~Self-motivated and proactive with respect to managing workload and professional development.
