Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada Intact Financial Corporation Full time

We're seeking an In-House Insurance Litigation Attorney to join our team at Intact Financial Corporation. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and inclusive environment where you can grow and develop your skills.

As a key member of our Litigation Department, you will be responsible for providing legal representation to the claims department and its insureds on Property and Casualty litigation files. Your primary focus will be on handling insurance defence files from beginning to conclusion, preparing and delivering initial reports providing recommendations on liability, quantum assessment, and file management strategy.

You will advise clients on the need for further investigation, creative, and proactive options intended to achieve earlier file resolution. Additionally, you will use civil procedure rules to compel plaintiff document production and early discovery dates. You will draft opinions, pleadings, affidavits, and other documents supporting motions applications, mediation briefs, and pre-trial memoranda.

Your responsibilities will also include preparing and conducting applications/motions, discoveries, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trial conferences, and trials. You will research and advise clients on issues impacting on claims, report to clients following discovery examinations or on receipt of information impacting on quantum assessment or early file resolution.

Further, you will advise clients on developing trends in law, negotiate settlements with opposing counsel, and provide verbal and written opinions on insurance policy interpretation and coverage issues. You will prepare and present educational seminars to the claims department and maintain productive communications with the claims department and individual adjusters.

In this role, you will work as part of the Litigation Department team to implement programs and procedures to achieve cost-efficient and quality legal services. You will handle insurance litigation files of varying complexities from beginning to conclusion and draft opinions, pleadings, affidavits, and other legal documents to support applications, mediations, judicial settlement conferences, and trials.

You will independently prepare and conduct applications, discoveries, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trial conferences, and trials. Additionally, you will prepare and present legal educational seminars to the claims department and help your colleagues from other departments on inquiries. You will maintain productive and effective communications with the claims department and adjusters.

This is a permanent position with competitive compensation and benefits. The estimated salary range for this position is between $120,000 and $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of insurance litigation experience, be a member in good standing of the Law Society, and have proficiency in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to build effective client relationships are essential. Bilingualism (English/French) is also required. Please note that no Canadian work experience is required, but the candidate must be eligible to work in Canada.
