Job Title: Manager of Development Engineering

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager of Development Engineering to join our team at CanMar Recruitment. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading the Development Engineering portfolio and ensuring the effective management of engineering plans, standards, and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Development Engineering Section, including planning, managing, and directing staff in the review of plans for subdivisions and other developments.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for Development Engineering, ensuring compliance with Municipal servicing plans, standards, and specifications.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with other departments in the Municipality, as well as with the public and outside agencies.
  • Review and direct the reviews by staff of plans and designs submitted with applications for subdivisions, rezoning, development permits, and building permits.
  • Ensure that all legal and other provisions are in place prior to issuance of development permits, and respond to inquiries and complaints from the public.
  • Oversee inspection work completed by developers to ensure that approved designs and standards have been followed.
  • Make decisions and interpret related legislation, policies, guidelines, and procedures with respect to work carried out by the division.
  • Participate in complex negotiations and problem-solving, and provide information and advice to industry, business owners, property owners, and other parties.
Requirements:
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in leading a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders, including Council, staff, and the public.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legislation, policies, and guidelines.
  • Experience in development engineering, including the review of plans and designs, and the issuance of development permits.
  • Knowledge of Municipal servicing plans, standards, and specifications, as well as relevant legislation and policies.
