About the Role

CASA Mental Health Classrooms are a pioneering approach to school-based mental health services, addressing the need for services closer to students by bridging a child's mental health and school needs through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the CASA team and external supports to provide high-quality trauma-focused mental health therapies to children, teens, and families.
  • Complete mental health assessments, design treatment plans, and provide multi-modality therapy for students delivered in a school setting.
  • Build specialized parenting skills for caregivers with children who have exceptional needs.
  • Formulate diagnoses as appropriate, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools.
  • Conduct case management functions, including convening case conferences and liaising with CASA therapists and psychiatrists, community services, and other professionals involved with the child and their family.
  • Coordinate consultation with other therapists or external partners as appropriate.
  • Supervise and/or precept student placements.
  • Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, or occupational therapy, or a bachelor's degree in social work or a related discipline such as psychology or social sciences, with a minimum of three years of related experience in an educational or mental health setting.
  • Active registration and in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP), or Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.

Conditions of Employment:

  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) or Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments (SIVA) training, as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
