Your Opportunity:

Description:

As a Primary Care Paramedic with Alberta Health Services, you will play a critical role in providing emergency medical care to patients in need. Your responsibilities will include assessing emergency scenes, treating patients, and transporting them to medical facilities. You will work in a fast-paced environment, often in challenging weather conditions, and may be exposed to hazardous and graphic scenes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess emergency scenes and patients to determine the level of care required
  • Administer minor medications and basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts as needed
  • Operate ambulances or other modes of transportation to transport patients to medical facilities
  • Lead BLS crews in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes
  • Ensure that ambulances or other EMS vehicles are properly stocked and equipped

Requirements:

  • Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • Valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent
  • Five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits
  • Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (FARE) test

Working Conditions:

The working environment for a Primary Care Paramedic is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will also be required to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations, and may be exposed to hazardous and graphic scenes.

Physical Demands:

The working conditions for a Primary Care Paramedic are also physically demanding. You will be required to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You will also need to stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand, and assume awkward positions.
