About the Role

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled Correctional Officer to join our team in one of our adult correctional facilities. As a Correctional Officer, you will be responsible for the safe and secure custody, control, and supervision of sentence and remand persons in custody.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dynamic supervision of persons in custody and ensure their safety and security.
  • Participate in the case management of persons in custody, including approving and arranging professional and personal visits.
  • Conduct persons in custody counts and searches, and respond to complaints and requests.
  • Supervise facility cleaning and maintenance, and assist with programs and activities for persons in custody.
  • Record and communicate information through reports, forms, and documentation.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in law enforcement, security, or the military is an asset.
  • Leadership experience and knowledge of computerized/automated environments are also assets.
