Indigenous Cultural Enhancement Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Indigenous Cultural Enhancement Worker to join our team at School District #41 (Burnaby). The successful candidate will assist in the planning, development, and delivery of cultural programs to honour Indigenous students.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with school-based staff and District educational teams to design, implement, and monitor targeted cultural programs and activities.
- Engage students in cultural programs and activities that enhance cultural identity, such as field trips, cultural events, group activities, and presentations.
- Develop relationships and provide mentorship to Indigenous students, learning about their various cultural backgrounds.
- Advocate for the health and well-being of Indigenous Youth and families by establishing and following meaningful educational plans.
- Provide academic support to Indigenous students through cultural support, primarily working in small groups inside the classroom.
- Provide family support when necessary, via visits and phone calls to the home.
- Participate in District Indigenous Education activities and events as required.
- Minimum Grade 12 supplemented by post-secondary training up to six (6) months in duration.
- One year of related work experience with Indigenous youth in an educational setting or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Thorough understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being.
- Sound knowledge of community and agency resources.
- Working knowledge of computer operation related to work performed.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures related to work performed.
- Valid B.C. Driver's License (Class 5).
