Shop Foreman Job Opportunity

Brandt, a leading John Deere - agriculture dealership, is seeking a skilled Shop Foreman to oversee the effective supervision of our service department.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring quality standards and productivity requirements are met in accordance with Service Optimization standards. As the Shop Foreman, you will act as the Service Manager when the Manager is away and provide quotes and estimates to customers, review work orders, and direct the closing of work orders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assignment of Jobs and Work Orders: Assist in the assignment of jobs and work orders to Service Department employees based on their skills and knowledge.
  • Repair Order Appraisal: Assist in the appraisal of repair orders coming into the Service Department and may participate in repairs. You will review repair orders for accuracy and completeness and stay informed of the progress on all jobs.
  • Point-of-Contact: Act as a point-of-contact for technicians on equipment repair inquiries and updates.
  • Diagnostic Assistance: Direct and assist in the diagnosis of machine problems for technicians and apprentices.
  • Tool Maintenance: Inspect and repair all special tools and recommend new tooling as required.
  • Customer Complaints: Advise the Service Manager or Service Location Manager of all customer complaints.
  • Training and Scheduling: Coordinate and schedule all in-house technician training.
  • Safety Meetings: Assist the Service Manager or Service Location Manager with coordinating and conducting quarterly safety meetings.
  • Technical Support: Support Service Advisors by responding to technical questions from customers.
  • Workplace Discipline: Demonstrate proper and safe workplace processes and operation of equipment. Maintain good housekeeping discipline for a clean and safe working environment.
  • Managerial Duties: May fill the Service Manager or Service Location Manager role in their absence and may arrange for and participate in re-conditioning of used equipment and set-up of new equipment.
  • Release of Equipment: May approve the release of equipment for delivery to the customer.
  • Performance Feedback: May assist in providing performance feedback and disciplinary recommendations for service technicians and staff to the Service Manager or Service Location Manager.
  • Billing and Other Duties: Bills approximately 50% of available time and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years' experience as a Service Technician, Journeyman certification preferred.
  • Ability to lead and coach others.
  • Familiar with company and competitive products.
  • Basic understanding of financial principles related to service department operations.
  • Ability to write and speak effectively to individuals and groups.
  • Ability to use standard desktop load applications such as Microsoft Office and internet functions.
  • Excellent negotiation/conflict resolution, decision making, and delegation skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Forklift license preferred.
