Job Summary

The Pharmacy Assistant will be responsible for supporting the pharmacy team in the preparation, distribution, and management of medications under the supervision of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform various medication preparations and clerical duties in accordance with standard procedures.
  • Assist pharmacy technicians with non-sterile components of sterile pharmaceutical product preparation.
  • Monitor pharmacy inventory and supplies for outdated products.
  • Charge and credit medications per established procedure.
  • Print and distribute reports from pharmacy computer system.
  • Perform routine physical cleaning and maintenance on pharmacy equipment.
  • Complete records and filing associated with all duties.
  • Participate in hospital and/or departmental quality assurance/improvement activities to ensure standards are maintained.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new employees, students, and pharmacy residents.
Requirements
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy terms and medication names.
  • Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or recent retail or hospital pharmacy experience acceptable to the employer.
  • Experience with Windows-based computer applications.
  • Fluency in the English language (both written and verbal).
  • Typing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates good organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Displays professionalism, tact, courtesy, discretion, and respects confidentiality.
  • Must be accurate, reliable, precise, cooperative, self-motivated, and able to demonstrate effective service attitude.
  • Ability to work all rotations and shift hours.
