Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Orthopedic Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our inter-professional health care team, you will be responsible for providing quality patient-focused nursing care to patients in surgical orthopedics. Your expertise will help ensure safe and effective care, while promoting a positive patient experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care
  • Compliance with policies and procedures associated with observations
  • Professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being, associated with creating a therapeutic relationship and environment
  • Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment
  • Practicing according to infection control and prevention measures
  • Responding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessary using transfer of accountability principles
  • Providing health teaching to patients and families, including thorough discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care in the community

Requirements:

  • Experience within the last five years, with a minimum of two years within post-operative in-patient surgery experience is required in the following services: orthopaedics, general Surgery, gynecology, urology
  • Demonstrates knowledge, experience, and ability to care for patients with initiation and maintenance of IV therapy, phlebotomy, administration of medication above the drip chamber, blood and blood product administration, blood glucose monitoring, nasogastric tubes, chest tubes, ostomy and wound management skills, enteral and parenteral feeding, routine and additional infection control precautions, normal and abnormal values
  • Seniors' gentle persuasive approaches training or experience with a seniors' population preferred
  • Canadian Nurses Association certification preferred
  • Expected to work within all areas of inpatient surgery as per operational needs

Salary and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience, plus comprehensive benefits, including professional development opportunities and a generous pension plan. The successful candidate must have a current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and a valid BCLS certification.
