We are seeking an Energy Efficiency Specialist to join our team at the BC Non-Profit Housing Association.

The BC Non-Profit Housing Association is the leading voice for non-profit housing providers in British Columbia. We represent and support over 600 non-profit housing societies that manage more than 60,000 affordable housing units across 2,000 sites in the province.

About the Role

This is a permanent full-time position (37.5 hours per week) that requires a valid driver's license. The successful candidate will work on technical services and project coordination related to energy analysis and building retrofits. They will provide coaching services to guide non-profit housing societies through retrofit projects, including funding applications from Provincial sources (BC Housing, CleanBC), utility providers (BC Hydro and FortisBC), Federal programs, and other funding opportunities.

The Energy Efficiency Specialist will be part of a team working to deliver a program that supports non-profit housing societies undertaking deep energy retrofits. This role involves working directly with non-profit housing societies to perform energy audits, collect and analyze building energy data, and assist with project planning and implementation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Benchmarking Non-Profit Buildings:
    • Work with Building Energy Analyst and non-profit housing societies to facilitate benchmarking and data collection processes.
    • Analyze data for business case development, retrofit estimates and potential project feasibility.
  • Conduct Energy Audits:
    • Travel to sites or virtually collect building system information, identify energy conservation measures, and write reports.
    • Perform outreach and site visit coordination across the province – arrange appointments, accommodation, travel, and report expenses.
  • Coach non-profits through building retrofit projects:
    • Coordinate retrofit projects for non-profit societies, working with staff and board, consultants, contractors, utility companies, and various funding agencies.
    • Provide technical support to non-profit housing providers to identify, plan, and implement energy efficiency retrofits, particularly potential low-carbon electrification (LCE) projects. This includes supporting business case development for energy efficiency and emissions reduction projects.
  • Data Management:
    • Assist in identifying and pursuing opportunities to enrich BCNPHA databases with relevant data.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Post-secondary education in fields such as energy management, sustainability, planning, science, or engineering.
  • A Master's degree, SEMAC, or BERM certification is an asset, as is project management coursework.
  • Knowledge of energy analysis, conservation measures, building construction, and energy systems is required.
  • Experience in energy benchmarking, project coaching, and working with non-profits is an asset.
