Construction Materials Field Specialist

WSP Canada is seeking a qualified Construction Materials Field Specialist to join our team. This role will involve performing field quality control and assurance testing on various construction materials, including soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt.



Key Responsibilities


  • Conduct field quality control and assurance testing on construction materials
  • Perform soil and asphalt compaction testing to ensure compliance with industry standards
  • Carry out subgrade and footing inspections to verify project specifications
  • Test materials in accordance with CSA, CCIL, and ASTM standards
  • Pursue CCIL certification for concrete testing to enhance expertise
  • Maintain a safe work environment by prioritizing and adhering to the field and laboratory Health & Safety program
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and calibrations as needed
  • Work on projects primarily located in the Greater Toronto Area, with occasional travel to other provinces and territories


Requirements


  • Experience in materials field testing and inspection, laboratory testing, or applicable post-secondary education
  • Diploma in Civil Technology or Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with OACETT or PEO is an asset
  • Familiarity with civil construction practices and relevant testing standards
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and contractors
  • Capability to work independently in both construction and laboratory settings and collaborate with local office managers and supervisors
  • Valid driver's license, with a clear driver's abstract
  • Willingness to travel for out-of-town assignments and accommodate overtime, including nightshifts and weekends
