Job Summary:

The Culinary Specialist is a key member of the Prairie Mountain Health team, responsible for ensuring the highest quality food production and service in our facilities. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Supervision: In the absence of the Nutrition Services Supervisor or Manager, assumes a leadership role in coordinating the food production and service for the facility, including the daily supervision of the food production staff and required quality assurance processes.
  • Food Preparation and Service: Prepares all food in accordance with production schedules, standard recipes, quality standards (taste, texture, presentation, and appearance) and portion control guidelines.
  • Menu Planning and Execution: Prepares all food items as required for special and catered functions and other departmental programs (Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Program).
  • Therapeutic and Texture-Modified Foods: Completes preparations for all therapeutic or texture-modified foods required.
  • Food Safety and Quality Assurance: Monitors and records temperature of foods through storage, preparation, and service to ensure established temperature goals are achieved or exceeded.
  • Inventory Management: Assists with purchasing, receiving, checking, and storage of food and supplies as required. Responsible for reporting damaged or missing goods.
  • Quality Control and Improvement: Assists with planning, organizing, and evaluating menu items. Follows established safe work procedures for all relevant equipment and tasks.
  • Team Collaboration and Development: Participates in orientation, training, and mentoring of new employees and students. Reports Maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, security issues, and unsafe work conditions to the Supervisor or Manager. Completes all necessary documentation.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in food production and service, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
