Job Summary

The City of Vancouver is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the design and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects, managing a team of electrical engineers and technicians, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of electrical infrastructure projects, including developments, utilities, and street lighting capital programs.
  • Manage a team of electrical engineers and technicians, providing guidance and oversight to ensure high-quality work.
  • Develop and implement electrical technical specifications, standards, and related work processes.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including developers, consultants, and other City departments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including the Professional Governance Act and the Project Management Framework.
  • Develop and manage budgets, including operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to staff, including training and development opportunities.
  • Participate in safety and training programs, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Contribute to the development of business cases and strategic plans, aligning with City priorities and objectives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a Professional Engineer designation and minimum 6 years related experience in design and construction project engineering work.
  • Experience managing staff and HR issues in a union environment.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
  • Project Management Credentials (PMP) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles, standards, and specifications, as they relate to the municipal environment.
  • Working knowledge of the Professional Governance Act and the Project Management Framework.
  • Ability to lead and review the work of a technical design team.
  • Ability to manage and lead a diverse team in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organizational and time management skills in a high-volume and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work and think strategically, including experience with business case composition and evaluation, strategic planning, and development and implementation of Key Performance Indicators.
