Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant/Technician to join the BC Brain Wellness Program. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting clinical research and contributing to the advancement of brain wellness.

The BC Brain Wellness Program is an innovative initiative that aims to improve and sustain quality of life for individuals living with brain disorders and their care partners. Our team is committed to leveraging the collective power of clinical care, lifestyle programs, education, and research to design a comprehensive and integrated approach to brain wellness.

As a Research Assistant/Technician, you will assist study team members in investigating, prioritizing, and conducting brain wellness research. Your responsibilities will include recruiting potential participants, screening patients for eligibility, obtaining informed consent, and collecting clinical and demographic information. You will also be responsible for reviewing study visit documentation, entering data into the research database, and ensuring policies and procedures for data management are being followed.

We are looking for a self-motivated and organized individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. You will have the opportunity to work closely with research staff, clinical investigators, clinicians, and multidisciplinary staff to contribute to the success of the BC Brain Wellness Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit potential participants and provide information about research studies
  • Screen patients for eligibility and schedule study visits
  • Obtain informed consent from participants and adhere to informed consent procedures and ethical guidelines
  • Collect clinical and demographic information and review study visit documentation
  • Enter data into the research database and ensure data management policies are followed
  • Assist in tracking participant remunerations and petty cash, and complete financial requisitions as needed
  • Write and maintain ethics research protocols associated with relevant studies
  • Write, edit, and submit research findings for publication
  • Perform literature reviews and participate in group meetings, scientific seminars, and conferences

Requirements

  • High school graduation and some additional training in a related field
  • Minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and prioritize workload
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing work plans, schedules, and deadlines
  • Self-motivated and proactive with a passion for disease-oriented medical research

Working Conditions

The Research Assistant/Technician will work in a multidisciplinary team environment and have access to electronic medical records. They will report directly to the Research Program Manager and the Principal Investigator.
