Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant/Technician to join the BC Brain Wellness Program. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting clinical research and contributing to the advancement of brain wellness.

The BC Brain Wellness Program is an innovative initiative that aims to improve and sustain quality of life for individuals living with brain disorders and their care partners. Our team is committed to leveraging the collective power of clinical care, lifestyle programs, education, and research to design a comprehensive and integrated approach to brain wellness.

As a Research Assistant/Technician, you will assist study team members in investigating, prioritizing, and conducting brain wellness research. Your responsibilities will include recruiting potential participants, screening patients for eligibility, obtaining informed consent, and collecting clinical and demographic information. You will also be responsible for entering data into the research database, ensuring policies and procedures for data management are followed, and tracking participant remunerations and petty cash.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit potential participants through various strategies and provide information and answers about research studies
  • Screen patients for eligibility and schedule study visits
  • Obtain informed consent from participants and adhere to informed consent procedures and ethical guidelines for research involving human subjects
  • Perform clinical assessments and interviews with participants and collect clinical and demographic information
  • Review all study visit documentation for completeness and accuracy
  • Enter data collected into the research database and ensure policies and procedures for data management are followed
  • Assist in tracking participant remunerations and petty cash, as well as completing financial requisitions as needed
  • Write and maintain ethics research protocols associated with relevant studies
  • Write, edit, and submit research findings for publication
  • Perform literature reviews when required
  • Participate in group meetings, scientific seminars, and conferences

Requirements:

  • High school graduation, some additional training in a related field, and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Biology or a related science)
  • Past experience in a clinical and/or busy hospital environment
  • Prior experience in clinical research
  • Sensitivity to the issues faced by individuals living with neurological disease and ability to communicate compassionately with patient participants
