About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator Lead to join our team at Royal Bank of Canada. This is a unique opportunity to lead and manage a team of database administrators, responsible for ensuring the effective use of Oracle database technology and providing centralized DBA services for enterprise databases.

Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple concurrent initiatives of varying complexity in a time-efficient manner
  • Monitor and control activities according to plan
  • Identify potential issues, conflicts, and risks; analyze, mitigate, and escalate as necessary
  • Develop and execute end-to-end change management plans and communicate related information
  • Collaborate on cross-functional enterprise initiatives and implement assigned deliverables
  • Establish strong working relationships across business units and platforms
  • Create and maintain Oracle databases and objects in Dev, Test, and PROD environments
  • Decide backup/recovery strategy based on SLA; code, test, and support scripts
  • Perform database monitoring and tuning, including memory, CPU, locking, sorting, etc.
  • Work with application teams to perform SQL tuning
  • Handle database security requests in various environments
  • Perform space analysis on tablespaces and expand or reorg as needed
  • Ensure Zabbix monitoring and Networker setup
  • Analyze complex technical issues and provide solutions
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • 7+ years of Oracle DB administration experience
  • In-depth knowledge of database backup and recovery for Oracle
  • In-depth knowledge of database tuning and SQL tuning for Oracle
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) and Data Guard
  • Undergraduate degree coupled with change management experience in complex programs
  • Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication skills, along with strong presentation skills
