Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Services Aide to join our team at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. As an Environmental Services Aide, you will play a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of our facilities, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain patient rooms, hallways, kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and other areas in accordance with our department's standards of practice, policies, and procedures.
  • Remove recyclables and garbage/waste from multiple locations, ensuring a clean and organized environment.
  • Perform floor care, including moving furniture and other items as required, to maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Clean and maintain Operating Rooms (O.R.) according to O.R. standards, ensuring a sterile and safe environment for surgical procedures.
  • Clean and maintain elevators and stairs, ensuring a safe and accessible environment for our patients and staff.
  • Perform cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
  • One year of experience working in a housekeeping department or a related field.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment common to the work being performed, including vacuum, dry mop, auto scrubber, polisher, etc.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the job, including standing, sweeping, pushing/pulling carts, reaching forward and above and below the shoulders, and lifting up to 15 kg.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS), chemicals, and dilution rates.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Familiarity with handling different types of wastes throughout the health centre.
  • Compliance with Body Substance Precaution provisions, sanitary and infection control requirements, and confidentiality requirements under RVH Privacy Policy.

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently to understand verbal orders and/or instructions.
