About the Role:

The Risk and Compliance Officer is a crucial position within the Commercial Credit team at Equitable Group, reporting directly to the Senior Manager, CMHC Portfolio Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement robust policies and procedures for managing the CMHC Portfolio, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Lead a team of credit professionals in reviewing and approving all aspects of CMHC Portfolio Management submitted by commercial mortgage underwriters within delegated limits.
  • Collaborate with external partners to gather required documents and information, maintaining open communication channels.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with problem loans, developing strategic plans to minimize losses.
  • Manage upcoming maturities proactively, allocating necessary resources for renewals, extensions, and payouts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of reporting to meet senior management and regulatory requirements.
  • Support recruitment efforts and provide onboarding for new staff members.
  • Offer continuous guidance and training to team members, promoting a culture of growth and development.
  • Cultivate a positive work environment, fostering collaboration and teamwork among staff.

Requirements:

  • At least 7 years of experience in underwriting commercial real estate transactions, including CMHC-insured multi-unit commercial mortgages.
  • Post-secondary education (diploma/degree), preferably in business or finance.
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills, with ability to guide colleagues.
  • Working knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and Corporate/Legal documentation for commercial real estate in multiple jurisdictions across Canada.
  • Sound understanding of commercial lending principles, financial statement analysis, and market trends.
  • Highly organized individual with exceptional time management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to make informed decisions.
  • Proficient in MS Office, with emphasis on Excel and Word.
