Scotiabank is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Statutory Reporting Officer to join its Financial Accounting & Reporting team.

About the Role

The Chief Statutory Reporting Officer will play a critical role in ensuring the Bank's compliance with statutory reporting requirements, including the production of quarterly and annual financial statements, earnings press releases, and other relevant reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain the Bank's global chart of accounts and related database structure to satisfy present and foreseeable statutory, financial, and management reporting information needs.
  • Prepare disclosures for assigned notes in the MD&A and financial statements.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Bank's quarterly and annual report by coordinating the roll-forward of reports, communicating requirements and deadlines to relevant note-owners, and overseeing the proofing and consistency check process.
  • Coordinate certain matters related to the Bank's external audit, including updating and maintenance of policy related to pre-approved audit services, preparing quarterly summaries of external audit and related services for reporting to the audit & conduct review committee, and preparing annual audit fee budgets for reporting to the audit & conduct review committee.
  • Oversee and coordinate the preparation of the Bank's quarterly earnings press release.
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects and research activities within the department as required.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in business, finance, or accounting.
  • CPA designation (or working towards the same) is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Peoplesoft EGL and OBI is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and some knowledge of regulatory guidelines applicable to the Bank.
  • Strong communication skills, as the position deals with multiple internal stakeholders, as well as external Audit.
  • Strong Excel skills, experience with the development of macros is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Must be very well organized; must be accurate yet able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Must be willing to work overtime during quarter-end periods.
