About the Role:
The Sacred Care Shkabeh will provide direct in-home support services to youth, working within a team that offers comprehensive case management services and holistic care. This role is part of Shawenim Abinoojii's commitment to nurturing homes that honor the cultural identity, community connection, and individual needs of youth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support youth in developing daily living skills based on their needs and goals.
- Collaborate with community resources focused on wellness services and support, including cultural teachings, mental health, and addictions services.
- Liaise with the SAI Wellness Unit to facilitate access to services and programming based on First Nations identity.
- Foster a safe and supportive environment that empowers youth to explore and respond to their emotional and psychological needs.
- Complete and submit required service documentation, including daily logs and incident reports.
- Utilize a relationship-based approach to deescalating and responding to emergencies.
- Maintain timely and effective communication with the holistic circle of care to support youth care.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years related experience in the helping field.
- Strong understanding of approaches to supporting life skills development.
- Knowledge of community-based resources.
- Knowledge in areas of Addictions, Attachment, Mental Health & Trauma and its impact on young people.
- Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and foster care legislation.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of First Nations experiences, culture, and philosophies.
- Demonstrated skills and competence to establish supportive relationships.
- Knowledge of assessment and crisis intervention.
- Ability to work flexible schedule to accommodate youth needs.
- Satisfactory Child Abuse, Adult Abuse, Vulnerable Person Check, and Criminal Record Check.
- Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and team skills.
- Ability to speak Anishinaabe preferred.
