Job Title: Sacred Caregiver

Job Summary:

The Sacred Caregiver will provide primary support and nurturing care for youth in their home. This role requires a compassionate and empathetic individual who can provide a safe and stable environment for youth with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nurturing care and guidance to youth who may have complex behavioral or emotional needs.
  • Implement strategies learned through training to support youth in building skills that empower them to respond to their human needs.
  • Offer a supportive and understanding environment for youth who have been faced with trauma.
  • Support youth in accessing services and implementing strategies focused on their healing and wellness.
  • Provide care with compassion, patience, and empathy, understanding the unique needs and experiences of each youth.
  • Serve as a positive role model and advocate for the well-being of the youth in your care.
  • Ongoing crisis intervention.
  • Complete and submit required service documentation, including daily logs and incident reports.
  • Utilize a relationship-based approach to deescalating and responding to emergencies as they arise.
  • Maintain timely and effective communication with the holistic circle of care to support the care of youth.

Qualifications:

  • Genuine compassion for children and a desire to make a difference in their lives.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing demeanor.
  • Willingness to undergo specialized training to respond to the unique needs of young people.
  • Ability to provide a safe and stable home environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of young people facing adversity.
  • Minimum of two years related experience in the helping field.
  • Experience in supporting the development of daily living skills.
  • Knowledge of community-based resources.
  • Knowledge in the areas of Addictions, Attachment, Mental Health and Trauma and how it impacts families.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of First Nations experiences, culture and philosophies.
  • Demonstrated skills and competence to establish supportive relationships.
  • Knowledge of assessment, crisis intervention.
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse, Vulnerable Person Check & Criminal Record Check
  • Strong understanding of child and youth development.
  • Excellent communication, organization, problem solving, and team skills.
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabe preferred.
