Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Needs Assistant to join our team at the Government of Northwest Territories. As a Special Needs Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in our educational settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special needs under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Develop and maintain accurate student records, including progress reports and IEPs.
  • Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to ensure seamless support for students with special needs.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with special needs.
Requirements
  • Grade 11/12 education or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children with identified special needs.
  • Local languages may be a requirement dependent upon the students who have identified special needs.
  • Ability to use Sign Language (basic/advanced) and/or Braille may be required in specific cases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary range: $34.20 per hour to $40.85 per hour (approximately $66,690 - $79,658) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $12,839.
