Job Summary

The Government of Northwest Territories is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Needs Assistant to join our team. As a Special Needs Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs or students who require additional support in a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementing specialized and modified learning and education activities to provide a positive learning experience for students with special needs or students who require additional support.
  • Work with special needs/additional needs students individually or in small groups to provide academic assistance in core areas such as reading and math.
  • Ensure that special needs/additional needs students are provided with positive learning environments and have an opportunity to learn effective listening and communications skills and good work habits.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to promote a sense of accomplishment and self-confidence in students.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 combined with related training in working with special needs students and experience in an educational environment.
  • Equivalencies may be considered.

What We Offer

  • A competitive salary range of $34.20 per hour to $40.85 per hour (approximately $66,690 - $79,657) plus a pro-rated annual Northern Allowance.
