Job Title: Senior Business Partner, Investment Services

Alberta Innovates is seeking a Senior Business Partner, Investment Services who will provide investment and market intelligence support for Alberta Innovates (AI) programs. This includes business due diligence for investments into AI-aligned technology companies across stages and sectors, and providing analyses to inform evidence-based operational, capital and investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts due diligence on potential investments, assessing factors such as market potential, technology differentiation, management team, competitive landscape, and financial viability across a spectrum of early to late-stage opportunities.
  • Generates insights for key analytical decisions; develops and improves tools, systems, and processes; develops and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders, peers, and colleagues to understand program priorities to manage new requests, processes, and delivery expectations.
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders, including working collaboratively with AI's client-facing Technology Development Advisors and Program Managers to bring value to clients.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in commerce, business administration, economics, science, or engineering; preference will be given to those with MBA or CPA designation.
  • Minimum 8 years in management consulting, private equity, or venture capital, commercial/investment banking, or working with (or for) a technology-based small to medium enterprise (SME).
  • Demonstrated business sense in a diversified set of industries.
  • Experience with SMEs in the technology commercialization space.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and their applications.
  • Knowledge of financial frauds in businesses.
