School of Energy: A Key Role
The School of Energy at BCIT seeks an exceptional Lead Academic Manager for Electrical Engineering and Technology. As a vital member of the Educational Leadership Team, this individual will provide administrative and educational leadership to designated programs and courses, adhering to BCIT and industry standards. Reporting to the Dean, the Lead Academic Manager represents the School's interests and contributes to overall Institute planning and administration.

Main Responsibilities
This role entails leading various initiatives impacting daily and long-term strategic issues important to the School of Energy and the Institute. The ideal candidate must be a strategic thinker with effective change management skills, able to foster an organizational environment promoting personal productivity, job satisfaction, and professional growth among support and academic staff. Some key responsibilities include:
  • Representing the Institute, School, and Department at relevant Industry, community, and sector functions.
  • Participating in the development and implementation of strategic plans, organizational structures, systems, and processes.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective liaisons with industries, professional groups, associations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Identifying and leading new educational and business opportunities for the Institute.
  • Attending Program Advisory Committee meetings and working with the Foundation to secure industry support.

Leadership and Education
The Lead Academic Manager is responsible for providing educational leadership to a range of full-time and part-time programs, including Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, and Master of Engineering in Smart Grid Systems and Technologies. This individual will direct the design, development, and implementation of new programs and courses, establishing curriculum development strategies consistent with Institute standards. Additionally, they will oversee program accreditation processes and ensure compliance with relevant provincial and federal legislation.

Financial Management
The salary for this position is estimated to be within the range of $136,202 - $195,791 per annum, with a control point of $170,253. The successful candidate will manage complex budgets, determining costs, allocations, and expenditures, while monitoring processes for multiple programs. They will also negotiate operating and capital budget components, controlling by program expenditures and being responsible for year-end performance.
