Job Title: Adjunct Instructor - Heavy Equipment Trades

SAIT's Continuing Education and Professional Studies (CEPS) is seeking a qualified Adjunct Instructor to teach in the Heavy Equipment Trades area. As an Adjunct Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students, creating a positive learning environment, and ensuring student success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities, and lab demonstrations for learners.
  • Maintain records for grading, assessing professionalism, and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes.
  • Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment.
  • Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and advice to students.
  • Attend all SAIT training as required.
  • Achieve School initiatives and Objectives.
  • Be an active and engaged member of the School.
  • Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines, and safety standards as required.
  • Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors.
  • Perform all other duties as required for the position.
Qualifications:
  • Must hold an Alberta Heavy Equipment Technician Certificate of Apprenticeship and Proficiency or equivalent with interprovincial (Red Seal) status.
  • Must have at least two (2) years' experience as a Journeyperson in either off-road equipment and/or on-road vehicles or equivalent.
  • Preference will be given to those who have demonstrated experience and are up to date with current technologies specifically in: diesel engines, electrical & electronics, air and hydraulic braking systems, and suspension systems.
  • Prior teaching or training experience in adult education is an asset.
  • Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams or Zoom).
  • Fluent in English reading and vocabulary.
  • Comfortable speaking to the public.
  • Positive and respectful attitude.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and deliver specific curriculum.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and present written information.
