About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Mental Health and Addictions Support Specialist to join our team at the Red Fish Salmonberry Unit. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to individuals with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor clients in accordance with treatment objectives, observing behaviors and symptoms, and documenting observations in accordance with standard procedures.
- Participate in the admission, case planning, and discharge process for clients, conducting interviews, gathering relevant records, and attending case meetings.
- Establish rapport with clients, providing emotional support and counseling, and assisting with problem-solving and daily living activities.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including time management, organization, and interpersonal communication, and escort clients to medical and social appointments.
- Participate in case planning, interviewing clients to identify problems and needs, and coordinating services with medical professionals and community resources.
Requirements
- Diploma from a recognized Social Services Support Worker educational program.
- Two years' recent, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid driver's license and ability to use a personal vehicle for local area travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.
- Knowledge of community, social, and health resources.
- Knowledge of substance misuse and basic understanding of behavior management.
- Knowledge of mental health issues and treatment.
- Ability to demonstrate and assist clients with development of health life skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients.
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments related to Indigenous reconciliation.
