Job Title: Addictions Counsellor

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Addictions Counsellor to join our team at the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre. As an Addictions Counsellor, you will play a vital role in providing rehabilitative addiction counselling services to offenders, assisting in the development of addiction counselling programs, and contributing to an inter-professional committee focusing on addictions and re-integration of offenders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individual and group counselling services to offenders with addiction issues
  • Develop and implement addiction counselling programs to support offender rehabilitation
  • Collaborate with correctional staff, community agencies, and external stakeholders to ensure effective treatment planning and coordination
  • Conduct risk and needs assessments to identify offender needs and develop discharge plans
  • Facilitate the completion of recognized addiction assessments and provide recommendations for treatment
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, psychology, counselling)
  • Knowledge of current addiction counselling theories, practices, and techniques
  • Experience working with diverse client populations, including offenders with addiction issues
  • Strong analytical and evaluative skills, with ability to assess offender needs and develop effective treatment plans
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build rapport with offenders and work effectively with correctional staff and external stakeholders
